LtCol Atiim Phillips is from Chesapeake, VA. He enlisted in the Virginia Army National Guard in 1994. He graduated Basic Training and Advanced Infantry Training as a Fast Tracker (for promotion) in Aug 1995 and reported to 1/116th, 29th INF DIV (L), in Christiansburg, VA. He served as an M60 gunner and weapons squad leader. He was released from his contract in 1999 due to being accepted into Marine Corps OCS.
LtCol Phillips graduated from Virginia Tech in 1998 with a BA in Interdisciplinary Studies. He was commissioned via the OCC program on 13 Aug 1999. Upon completion of The Basic School and Communications Information Systems Officer Course, he reported to 8th Communication Bn, II MEF, in Camp Lejeune, NC.
From Aug 2000 to Oct 2001, Lt Phillips served as Alpha Co Radio Platoon Commander. Afterwards, he served as Bravo Co Executive and Operations Officer and was the lead communications planner as the Direct Support Company for the planning and activation of 4th MEB (AT). In Feb 2004, he deployed with 22D MEU (SOC) LF6F 1-04 as the Joint Task Force Enabler Det OIC to Tarin Kowt, Afghanistan ISO Operation ENDURING FREEDOM (OEF) and established FOB Ripley. During the deployment, he was promoted to Captain. Upon his return from deployment in Oct 2004, he received orders to the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) in Falls Church, VA.
At DISA, Capt Phillips was assigned to the Global Information Grid Engineering Services Directorate as the Assistant Lead SIPRNET Engineer and Lead IP Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) Engineer. In Feb 2007, he received his MS, Information Systems Management from the University of Phoenix. Upon completion of his tour in 2007, he was selected for Expeditionary Warfare School (EWS) in Quantico, VA.
In 2008, at the completion of EWS and Advanced Communications Officer Course (ACOC), Capt Phillips received orders to Marine Wing Communications Squadron 38 (MWCS-38), MCAS Miramar, CA. He activated and served as the Commanding Officer, Detachment C from Oct 2008 to Nov 2009. He was frocked to Major and served as the Squadron Executive Officer until Nov 2010. He deployed as the 3d MAW (FWD) Deputy AC/S G-6 and G-6 Operations Officer at Camp Leatherneck, Afghanistan ISO OEF 10.2.
In 2011, Maj Phillips executed orders to Communications School, Quantico, VA. He was the Course Coordinator for the Basic and Advanced Instruction Groups. Specifically, he was the Course Chief and Chief Instructor for the Advanced Communications Officer Course (ACOC) and supervised the Warrant Officer Communication Courses (WCC) for three years. He was the Course Chief for the Basic Communications Officer Course (BCOC) for one year.
In 2014, Maj Phillips attended Marine Corps Command and Staff College and received a Masters in Military Studies. In Jun 2015, he was assigned to MAGTF Staff Training Program Division, Quantico, VA. He served as the Deputy Branch Head and Communications Observer/Trainer/Collector, Communications Information Systems Branch.
In 2016, LtCol Phillips was promoted to his current grade, executed orders to Okinawa, Japan, and served as Assistant Chief of Staff G-6, 3d Marine Expeditionary Brigade/ Task Force-76 for two years.
In 2018, LtCol Phillips executed orders to Marine Corps Cyberspace Operations Group in Quantico, VA and served as the Executive Officer for three years.
On 10 Jun 2021, LtCol Phillips assumed command of Marine Wing Communications Squadron 38, Marine Air Control Group 38, 3d Marine Aircraft Wing, MCAS Miramar, CA.
