Lieutenant Colonel Chad Troyer

Lieutenant Colonel Troyer enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in March 1990.  After completing Boot Camp and Infantry Training School, he reported to Marine Barracks Guam in April 1991.  In November 1992, Lieutenant Colonel Troyer reported to 3d Battalion 9th Marines where he deployed in support of Operation RESTORE HOPE in Somalia and again in support of the Unit Deployment Program to Okinawa, Japan in August 1993.  He completed his initial enlistment and separated from active duty service in September 1994 as a Corporal.

In December 2000, Lieutenant Colonel Troyer graduated from Ball State University in Indiana with a Bachelor of Science degree in Education and was commissioned through the Officer Candidate Course in August 2002.  Upon completion of The Basic School and Low Altitude Air Defense (LAAD) course, he reported to 3d LAAD Bn in November 2003 where he was assigned as a Platoon Commander, Battery B. In February 2004, Lieutenant Colonel Troyer, deployed to Iraq executing Air Base Ground Defense Operations in support of Al Asad Air Base, Iraq.  In 2006 Lieutenant Colonel Troyer deployed as the Marine Air Control Group 38 (MACG-38) LAAD Detachment Officer in Charge (DET OIC) in support of the 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU).

From 2007-2008, Lieutenant Colonel Troyer attended the Expeditionary Warfare School (EWS), resident Course, in Quantico VA.  Following EWS Lieutenant Colonel Troyer reported to The Basic School where he served two tours as a Staff Platoon Commander with Echo Company and India Company. 

In 2010, Lieutenant Colonel Troyer reported to 3d LAAD Bn, where he immediately deployed as a combat replacement for the Battalion, who was currently supporting operations in Afghanistan.  Following the deployment, Lieutenant Colonel took command of Battery A, 3d LAAD Bn.  In 2012, Lieutenant Colonel Troyer assumed the billet of 3d LAAD Bn Operations Officer.

From 2013-2016, Lieutenant Colonel Troyer served as the Future Operations Officer and Wing Air Command and Control Officer, 4th Marine Air Wing, Marine Forces Reserve.

In 2016, Lieutenant Colonel Troyer checked back in to 3d LAAD Bn as the Executive Officer.  In 2017, Lieutenant Colonel Troyer deployed as the MACG-38 DET OIC as well as the Aviation Combat Element Executive Officer in support of the 13th MEU.  Upon return from the 13th MEU, Lieutenant Colonel Troyer assumed the duties of MACG-38 Operations Officer until March 2020. 

Lieutenant Colonel Troyer is a graduate of the Expeditionary Warfare School (resident), Marine Aviation Weapons and Tactics Squadron-1, and USMC Command and Staff College (non-resident course). 

His personal decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (three gold stars), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, and Combat Action Ribbon.
