Melissa Salts, one of 72 graduating recruits from the San Diego Regional Law Enforcement Academy, places her badge on her uniform in the Bob Hope Theater aboard Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, Calif., Oct. 16. Graduating recruits from the academy moved on to become either deputy sheriffs or police officers for the San Diego region. Robert Laesch, a World War II Marine veteran, came out from Arizona to attend Salts’ graduation, where she became a deputy sheriff for the San Diego region. The San Diego Regional Law Enforcement Academy recognized him as an honored guest at the ceremony.
