Lt. Col James Bauch, squadron commander, Marine Wing Support Squadron (MWSS) 373, Marine Wing Support Group (MWSG) 37, 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing (MAW) and Capt. Nicole Stockholm, the project's company commander, discuss the progress of the Catalina Island Airport in the Sky runway replacement project with local and civic leaders on Catalina Island, Calif., March 1. 3rd MAW partnered with the Catalina Island Conservancy, I MEF and US Navy Seabees to replace the aging "Airport in the Sky" under the scope of the Department of Defense innovative readiness training program. The partnership with external units and the Catalina Island Conservancy is a unique opportunity for Marines to conduct expeditionary, real-world training while also serving the local community.
