A CH-53E Super Stallion with 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing (MAW), departs a forward arming and refueling point (FARP) that has been established on San Clemente Island, July 20, 2021. During Advanced Naval Basing evolution of Summer Fury 21, 3rd MAW established a FARP on the existing airfield to increase the range and tempo of aviation operations within the area of responsibility to evaluate the operational capability for application in future conflicts. Summer Fury is an exercise conducted by 3rd MAW in order to maintain and build capability, strength and trust within its units to generate the readiness and lethality needed to deter and defeat adversaries during combat operations as the U.S. Marine Corps refines tactics and equipment in accordance with Force Design 2030.
