Cpl. Timothy Midgett, CH-46E Sea Knight crew chief, Marine Medium Helicopter Squadron 365, Marine Aircraft Group 16, 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing, works to fix the headspace on his XM-218 .50 caliber machine gun Dec. 30. The 25-year-old from Pensacola, Fla., was reacting to the malfunction of the weapon after it failed to test fire. The Marine got the weapon repaired in short order, and the helicopter continued on with its transport mission. The quick thinking of the aircrew is a "must have" on transport missions where passengers rely on the aircrew's reaction skills to keep them from harm while flying over hostile terrain.
