Tavera, a 22-year-old native of Rosenberg, Texas and crew chief with Marine Medium Helicopter Squadron 365, Marine Aircraft Group 16, 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing was awarded the Air Medal with the Combat Distinguishing Device Feb. 12 for ?exercising courage under fire, exacting situational awareness and superior marksmanship while defending his CH-46E helicopter from enemy anti-aircraft fire in the vicinity of Ar Ramadi, Iraq.?
