1st Lt. James L. Pridgen checks over a UH-60 Blackhawk helicopter before a flight March 7 at Al Asad, Iraq. Pridgen and the soldiers with the Virginia Army National Guard's 2nd Battalion, 224th Aviation Regiment, Marine Aircraft Group 16 (Reinforced), 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing, officially began conducting operations in Western Iraq Feb. 25. The battalion is writing a new chapter in military history by being the first Army aviation battalion to fall under a Marine aviation command in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Pridgen is a pilot and Blackstone, Va., native.
