A CH-46E Sea Knight lifts off from a runway in Al Taqaddum, Iraq, April 5, 2004. The pilots and aircrew received a call for a casualty evacuation while on "alert status." The helicopters carry corpsmen to handle the casualties during transport. The helicopter and crew belong to Marine Medium Helicopter Squadron 161, Marine Aircraft Group 16, 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing, from Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, Calif., which supported the casualty evacuation mission in the region referred to as the Sunni Triangle in Iraq. HMM-161 was awarded the 2004 Marine Corps Aviation Association Mike Yunck Award May 2 for exceptional achievement by a Marine flying squadron.
