Lance Cpl. Michael J. Laws clears his M16A2 service rifle after being relieved from his post as a gate guard at Al Asad, Iraq, Nov. 6. Standing guard duty is one of the many duties Marines with Marine Aviation Logistics Squadron 16, Marine Aircraft Group 16 (Reinforced), 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing (Forward), perform while deployed to Iraq. Laws was accepted into the U.S. Naval Academy in October with the help of Maj. Thomas A. Lenhardt, his officer-in-charge. Laws is an aviation information systems specialist and Whippany, N.J., native.
