Lance Cpl. Carlos Valles acts as a platoon sergeant for the Afghan National Army recruits as they patrol the roads just outside the Camp Leatherneck perimeter. Valles, originally an administration clerk for 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing (Forward), is one of several U.S. Marine augments for the Joint Security Academy Southwest. While at JSAS, Valles acts as a troop escort for Afghan Security Forces. Valles spends 14 to 16 hours a day dedicated to the training and education of ANSF students here.
