3rd MAW CH-53E Super Stallion lands safely after in-flight fire

At approximately 1:00 p.m. PST, a CH-53E Super Stallion with Marine Heavy Helicopter Squadron (HMH) 465, Marine Aircraft Group 16, 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing, experienced an in-flight fire during a routine training mission, June 6, 2019. The aircraft landed safely at the Imperial County Airport in Imperial, California. 
 
The Imperial County Fire Department swiftly extinguished the rapidly spreading fire after the aircraft landed.
 
There were no injuries to personnel.
 
The cause of this incident is currently under investigation.
