3rd Marine Aircraft Wing conducts large-scale air assault exercise in Southern California
18 Jul 2019

Marines and Sailors from 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing are participating in Exercise Summer Fury 2019 in the Southern California region.

Summer Fury, which takes place from July 15 – Aug. 2, begins with two weeks of aviation operations and culminates with a regimental (minus) air assault, which marks the first time 3rd MAW has conducted an air assault of this magnitude during a training exercise.

“Opportunities to train with our adjacent commands from I Marine Expeditionary Force increase our combat effectiveness and make the MAW and our units down-range lethal and successful,” said Maj. Gen. Kevin M. Iiams, commanding general of 3rd MAW. “Summer Fury tests 3rd MAW and elements from 1st Marine Division and 1st Marine Logistics Group and helps build the capability and strength to success in complex, contested and expeditionary environments.”

The exercise is designed to increase the functionality and effectiveness of 3rd MAW while also enhancing Marine Air-Ground Task Force integration with participating I Marine Expeditionary Force units.

Exercises such as Summer Fury provide realistic, relevant training necessary for 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing to ensure the Marine Corps’ largest aircraft wing remains combat-ready, interoperable, deployable on short notice, and lethal when called into action.
