AL ASAD, Iraq -- Service members from across the base came together in the Morale, Welfare and Recreation building March 15, to laugh and enjoy themselves.
The MWR hosted a comedy show featuring comedians Jim McCue and Joe Conelly, both of whom have appeared on numerous television shows such as Comedy Central's Premium Blend and The Late Show with David Letterman.
"Both of the comedians are experienced entertainers," said Andy Nemeth, tour coordinator for both comedians. "They have been everywhere and done just about everything in this business."
This is not the first time these two comedians have been to a combat zone. Both have visited service members serving in the Balkans and were very pleased to have another opportunity to entertain the troops.
"I really enjoy coming out here and seeing the troops smile and making them laugh," said McCue. "I like knowing that I made their time out here a little easier."
According to Cpl. Michael K. Lawrence, an airframes mechanic, Marine Attack Squadron 223, Marine Aircraft Group 26, 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing, the service members in attendance really enjoyed the show.
"Both of the comedians were funny," said Lawrence, a native from Cambridge, Mass. "(McCue) did a lot of military jokes, which made everyone laugh because we all can relate to them. Both of the comedians had me and my friends almost in tears from laughing so hard."
As long as there are combat zones, the military men and woman of this country will need entertainers like McCue and Conelly to make them laugh and forget where they are, even if just for an hour or two.
