MARINE CORPS AIR STATION MIRAMAR, Calif. -- The Department of Defense recently partnered with Citibank to establish a new government travel charge card system.
All cards were mailed out in early September and Marines must call Citibank to accept the new card agreement.
"Verifying that they have received their new card will make it possible to track who has received (them)," said Chief Warrant Officer 3 Eric J. Kelz, agency program coordinator for Headquarters and Headquarters Squadron here.
More than 98 percent of the new Citi cards have been mailed out, but 4,400 cards have been returned because of invalid mailing addresses. Only 26 percent of the Citi cards have been verified.
Currently, there are a total of 249 open GTCC accounts for Headquarters and Headquarters Squadron.
The cards have been sent to the addresses on file for the Bank of America GTCC, explained Kelz.
Marines needing to update their addresses on the Electronic Account Government Ledger System should contact Citibank.
Citibank will activate the new cards Nov. 30 at midnight and Bank of America GTCC will no longer work.
Marines traveling during this time period should carry both cards.
Remaining balances on the former Bank of America cards will not transfer to the new accounts; Marines must pay all incoming statements until all accounts are closed.
The Corps assigns cards to Marines who travel more than three times per year on temporary-duty assignments.
The cards allow Marines to pay for approved travel expenses on the spot, rather than paying the fees out of pocket and requesting to be reimbursed later.
