MARINE CORPS AIR STATION MIRAMAR, Calif. -- The Marine Corps Air Station Miramar Falcons shut out the 3rd Assault Amphibian Battalion Gators at the Paige Field House in a 10-0 victory aboard Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, Calif., Aug. 13.
The Falcons had a rough start with two interceptions thrown by quarterback Casey Rogers and only two points on the board going into half time.
In the second half, the Falcons were able to buckle down and cemented their lead when Antwan Stokes scored a touchdown. They also recovered two fumbles and backed the Gators into their own end zone for a safety.
Even though this was a victory for the falcons, they still found things they need to improve on and reasons to work harder throughout the season.
“We need to work on blocking, tackling and creating more opportunities to get interceptions,” said Cpl. Fenold Alexis, a Falcons cornerback. “We need to realize our mistakes so we can improve on them.”
The team has worked hard throughout preseason and hope this time to take first in not just the Camp Pendleton Football League but the Best of the West title as they did in 2011.
Dozens of spectators were on hand, cheering the Falcons on. The players appreciated all the support and hope it will continue throughout the season.
“We know it’s pretty far from Miramar but it’s great to see [people] come out and support the team,” said Alexis.
Players and coaches look forward to the rest of the season with their next game against the 5th Marines Grizzlies on Aug. 27.
