Lieutenant Colonel Steven R. Murphy

Lieutenant Colonel Steven R. Murphy earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice in 1996. Lieutenant Colonel Murphy received his commission following graduation from Officer Candidates School in December of 1996.
Upon graduation from The Basic School and Motor Transportation Officers course he was assigned to Combat Service Support Group-3 where he served as a Platoon Commander and Company Executive Officer with Motor Transport Company and as the Group Maintenance Management Officer. In May of 2000, he was transferred to Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, South Carolina where he served with Third Recruit Training Battalion as a Series Commander and Company Executive Officer. During his time at Parris Island, he also served as the Headquarters Company Commander and the Recruit Training Regiment S-4 Officer.
In September 2003, he attended the Combined Logistics Captains Career Course (CLC3) in Fort Lee, Virginia. Following the career course, he was assigned to 1st Marine Air Wing Headquarters Squadron-1 as the Squadron Logistics Officer. He was subsequently assigned as an individual augment (IA) to Central Command J-4 plans from March-December 2005. Upon returning from the Central Command Area of Operations, he was assigned to the 1st Marine Air Wing G-4 where he served as the G-4 Plans Officer and Assistant Operations Officer until his transfer to the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College in June 2007.
Upon graduation, he was assigned to 2nd Marine Division where he served as an Individual Augment (IA) to IIMEF (FWD) on the Al Anbar Operations Command Advisor Team as the Logistics Advisor in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom 09-01. Upon return from Iraq in late 2009, he was assigned duties as the 8th Marine Regiment S-4 Officer. In 2011 completed a one year deployment with Regimental Combat Team 8 to Helmand Province, Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.
In April 2012 he assumed duties as the Executive Officer for Marine Detachment Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. In May 2014, Lieutenant Colonel Murphy transferred to Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center 29 Palms, California where he assumed duties as Marine Wing Support Squadron-374’s Commanding Officer.
Lieutenant Colonel Murphy’s personal decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal (with two gold stars), the Navy Marine Corps Commendation Medal (with gold star), the Joint Service Achievement Medal and the Navy Marine Corps Achievement Medal (with gold star).
Lieutenant Colonel Murphy is currently serving as the Commanding Officer of the Marine Wing Support Squadron 374.
