Major Koza is a native of Albert Lea, Minnesota, he graduated from The University of Nebraska at Omaha and was commissioned via Platoon Leader Class in April 2011. Upon completion of The Basic School, Second Lieutenant Koza reported to Naval Air Station (NAS) Pensacola where he commenced flight training. In May 2016 First Lieutenant Koza was designated a Naval Aviator in NAS Kingsville and proceeded to Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) Beaufort to complete F-35B training with Marine Fighter Attack Training Squadron 501. In July 2017, Captain Koza was assigned to Marine Fighter Attack Squadron 211 aboard MCAS Yuma, AZ. Captain Koza deployed July 2018 through January 2019 with the 13th MEU and flew combat sorties in support of OPERATION FREEDOM SENTINEL, INHERENT RESOLVE in Africa, Afghanistan and Syria. During this tour, Captain Koza earned Division Lead, Day/Night LSO, and attended Aviation Safety School. Captain Koza served in a variety of billets during this tour including Operations, ASO, and DoSS. In July 2020, Captain Koza reported to VFA-125 as a Fleet Replacement Squadron Instructor Pilot. During his tour at the Rough Raiders, Captain Koza served as scheduling Officer, Basic Fighter Maneuvering, Night Systems, and Mission Phase Head. Captain Koza assisted in training 79 Category 1-4 pilots and numerous instructors during his three year tour as well as became a Standardization pilot in every phase and FCF qualification. In July 2023, Major Koza reported to Marine Fighter Attack Squadron 314 where he serves as the Operations Officer. Major Kozas’ personal decoration include, Air Medal Strike/Flight (second award), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation, and Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (second award). Major Koza is married to his lovely wife Niki and has two sons (Eli and Liam) and one daughter (Audrey).
