Lieutenant Colonel William Wallace

Lieutenant Colonel Wallace joined the Marine Corps in December 2001 after graduating Eastern Kentucky University with a Bachelor’s Degree in History. After completing initial officer training LtCol Wallace attended naval flight training in Pensacola, FL and Corpus Christi, TX. Upon completion of flight school LtCol Wallace proceeded to Camp Pendleton, CA to begin flight training in the UH-1N.

LtCol Wallace’s first fleet assignment was aboard MCAS New River, NC with HMLA-269. From October 2004 to July 2009 LtCol Wallace served as the Flight Equipment Officer, Adjutant, Pilot Training Officer, and Standardization Officer for the “Gunrunners.”  In 2007 LtCol Wallace graduated from WTI 1-08 as a Weapons and Tactics Instructor. While with HMLA-269, LtCol Wallace deployed four times in support of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM.

From July 2009 to August 2010 LtCol Wallace joined VMM-162 (Reinforced) in support of the 24 Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU). During his time with the “Golden Eagles” LtCol Wallace served as a Future Operations Planner and as the HMLA detachment Operations Officer.  While attached to the 24th MEU, LtCol Wallace participated in Operation UNIFIED RESPONSE, providing humanitarian assistance to the country of Haiti after the January 2010 earthquake. Upon completion of his fifth deployment, LtCol Wallace returned to HMLA-269 until December 2010.

In January 2011 LtCol Wallace joined MAWTS-1 aboard MCAS Yuma, AZ. During his time at MAWTS-1, LtCol Wallace served as the UH-1 Division Head and the Assault Support Department Head. While at MAWTS-1, LtCol Wallace completed Tactical Air Control Party School in Coronado, CA and transitioned to the UH-1Y Venom.

In June 2014 LtCol Wallace departed MAWTS-1 to attend the United States Army Command and General Staff College aboard Fort Leavenworth, KS.  LtCol Wallace graduated with distinction and earned a Master of Military Arts and Science degree in Strategic Studies.

In July 2015 LtCol Wallace joined HMLA-467 where he led the 22d MEU HMLA detachment. While attached to VMM-264 (Reinforced), LtCol Wallace served as the Assistant Operations Officer and the Aircraft Maintenance Officer.  While deployed with the 22d MEU, the HMLA detachment supported coalition forces during Operation ODYSSEY LIGHTNING with rotary wing close air support in Sirte, Libya.

From May 2017 to December 2018, LtCol Wallace served as the H-1 Requirements Officer in the HQMC Aviation Weapons Requirements Branch.  During this tour LtCol Wallace was selected to command HMLAT-303.

LtCol Wallace’s personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal (with two gold stars), Air Medal with numeral 14, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (with gold star).
