Sergeant Major Wright is from Xenia, Ohio. He enlisted in the Marine Corps in June of 1997 and graduated from MCRD, Parris Island, South Carolina, where he was meritoriously promoted to Private First Class.
He received orders to Marine Combat Training (MCT), School of Infantry (East) and subsequently to Ft. Lee, VA, for his basic Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) school, where he received the primary MOS of 3361, Subsistence Supply Clerk. Upon graduation, he received orders to Headquarters and Service Company, Marine Corps Air Station El Toro, Irvine, California. While there he served as a Subsistence Supply Clerk and was promoted to the rank of Lance Corporal.
In January 1999, Lance Corporal Wright received orders for duty with Service Company, Marine Corps Air Station, Miramar, San Diego, California where he served as a Subsistence Supply Clerk as well as the Marine Corps Food Management Information System (MCFMIS) Clerk. During this assignment he was promoted to the rank of Corporal and subsequently to Sergeant.
In May 2001, Sergeant Wright received orders to Headquarters and Support Battalion, Camp Fuji, Japan to serve as the Subsistence Chief. In June 2002, upon completion of this tour he received orders to Service Company, 1st Force Service Support Group, Camp Pendleton, California. During his tour, he completed two deployments, Operation IRAQI FREEDOM I and Operation IRAQI FREEDOM III. During these deployments, Sergeant Wright served as the Class I Rations NCOIC as well as the Company Platoon Sergeant.
In July 2005, Sergeant Wright received orders to Support Company, Combat Logistics Company (CLC) – 36, Marine Corps Air Station Iwakuni, Japan, where he served as the Subsistence Supply Chief. During this tour, he was promoted to the rank of Staff Sergeant.
In August 2006, Staff Sergeant Wright received orders to Headquarters Company, Marine Wing Support Squadron (MWSS) 372, Camp Pendleton, California. During this tour he served as the Wing Subsistence Chief. In 2007, Staff Sergeant Wright deployed to Iraq in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM.
In 2009, Staff Sergeant Wright was selected to be an instructor at Marine Combat Training, Kilo Company, School of Infantry (West), Camp Pendleton, California. He successfully completed nine training cycles and was then selected to be the Company Gunnery Sergeant and Chief Instructor for Kilo Company. During this tour he was promoted to the rank of Gunnery Sergeant.
In April 2012, Gunnery Sergeant Wright received orders to the 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU), where he served as the Headquarters Camp Commandant. The following year he was reassigned to the Command Element as the S-4 Chief. In October 2013, Gunnery Sergeant Wright received orders to Bravo Company, Headquarters and Support Battalion, Camp Pendleton, California. In December 2013 he was selected to the rank of First Sergeant.
In May 2014, First Sergeant Wright was assigned to 2d Radio Battalion, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina to serve as Company First Sergeant for Company C, Company B, and Headquarters and Service Company. In March 2017 First Sergeant Wright received orders to 2d Marine Logistics Group, Headquarters Regiment for second tour of duty as a Company First Sergeant.
In November 2017 First Sergeant Wright was selected to the rank of Sergeant Major and received orders to VMFA 323 the Death Rattlers as the Squadron Sergeant Major.
Sergeant Major Wright has completed all required professional military education. His personal decorations include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with two gold stars in lieu of third award, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with one gold star in lieu of second award, and a Navy Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist Pin.
